While the Folio 100 tablet from Toshiba is overall a very good product it does have some problems. Most of the problems are pretty well documented and there doesn’t seem to be a good fix for them at this time. While at least two of the problems could be fixed by software changes, Toshiba has decided not to address these problems as of the Android 2.2 version of the operating system and there appears to be no firmware upgrade that addresses this problem for the product version PA3895E-1ET1.

Folio 100 hanging up or locking up
Usually this problem happens at start up. After the operating system has went through its normal start up, when you slide the “lock” up on the screen to finish logging in the tablet hangs or locks up. I’ve let the tablet site for quite a while to see if it would eventually free itself up but always lost patience before it would start working again.
To access the tablet I need to press the on switch and keep it pressed until the tablet does a hard shutdown. This is normally not considered a good thing. With windows computers this often means that orphan files are left on the hard drive eventually taking quite a bit of space, it can be assumed that Andriod systems would suffer the same fate.
That I have been able to research there is no solution for this problem. I have upgraded the operating system (Android 2.2) and have also tried resetting the tablet back to the Toshiba factory specification. Neither seem to have helped.
Toshiba Folio 100 Low Volume issues
This is kind of an odd problem for a tablet that gets a larger share of its value from being a multimedia platform. Toshiba has ensured that you can hear the various beeps and buzzes while operating the tablet, however when it comes to listening to music or movies they have set the volume way down. I’m not particularly hard of hearing, but for me to enjoy a movie I have to have the tablet volume set all the way up and be in a quite location.
If you are trying to listen to a movie of music in a plane or public location you are going to have a very hard time with the volume. This appears to be an issue with other Toshiba hand held tablets like the Toshiba Thrive as well as some of the Toshiba Laptop computers (Toshiba Portege or Satellite).
With the laptops usually you can update the sound card driver, that doesn't appear to be the case with the tablets For the Toshiba Thrive it would appear the easiest
fix is to turn the bass boost and treble boost on but these options are not available
in the Folio 100 Tablet.
While I have found many references to this problem in various forums, no one seems to have been able to come up with a solution other than buying a inline headset amplifier. Like the problem with the Toshiba Folio 100 hanging, this appears to be more of a software problem than a hardware issue. Once again it would appear that Toshiba has no plans to fix the problem due to the lack of interest shown by Toshiba in the official Toshiba forum.
